The Alley of the Kiss is a place that no one should miss when traveling to Guanajuato, Mexico.

There is a legend that has traveled by word of mouth in the zone through time. This legend is about two people in love: Carmen and Don Carlos, and here is the story:
Carmen was the only daughter of a jealous, strict, and violent father who kept her away and isolated from society so that the love of another man would not take her away from him.
But like any intelligent woman, Carmen from time to time went out “escaping”, and in one of them, she met Don Carlos, a humble miner, with whom she met in one of the many churches in Guanajuato near her house.
One day she was discovered by her father, who without giving it much thought locked her up and threatened to send her to a convent and then marry her to a rich and old Spanish nobleman, who would do his father a favor as he would increase his fortune.
In those days, most maidens had a lady-in-waiting as their faithful servant. So Carmen asked her lady-in-waiting to send a letter to Don Carlos in which she warned him about her father’s plans.
Don Carlos, like all lovers, was thinking about what he can do about it. It was then that he realized that one of the windows of Carmen’s house faced a narrow alley. This one was so narrow that just by leaning out and stretching a little well he could touch the wall of the house opposite.
So if he managed to enter the house across the street, he could talk to his beloved from the balconies and so between the two of them they could find a solution to his problem.
Asking and asking, he find out who owned the house and bought it from him at a “golden price”. Thus, still locked up and without her father’s knowledge, Carmen and Don Carlos spent long nights talking on the balconies.
Until one day the father heard murmurs in the room and found the couple together. Enraged and violent as he was, he plunged a dagger into his daughter’s chest.
Given the facts, Don Carlos was speechless with fear and only let a tender kiss fall into the hands of his beloved.
A few days later, Don Carlos, unable to bear living without Carmen’s love, threw himself from the main shaft of the Valenciana Mine.
The legend of “El Callejón del Beso” in Guanajuato says that if a couple visits this place and kisses right on the third step of this alley, they will have happiness for seven long years. But whoever doesn’t and passes through the place will have seven years of very, very bad luck.
